Skyline Chili Eating Championship set for Labor Day

Defending champion “Humble” Bob Shoudt and Joey “Jaws” Chestnut among the gluttonous gladiators competing in this year’s championship

KINGS ISLAND, Ohio – The greatest competitive eaters on the planet will gather at Kings Island on Labor Day (September 7) to battle in the second annual Skyline Chili Spaghetti Eating Championship. Major League Eaters, an increasingly celebrated breed of American athlete, will test their jaw strength and stomach capacity in a bid for the chili spaghetti eating world record and $5,000 in cash prizes.

Last year in the inaugural Skyline Chili Eating championship, “Humble” Bob Shoudt out-dueled his rival Joey “Jaws” Chestnut in an epic eating contest that pushed both gluttonous gladiators to the brink.

In a classic Labor Day battle that tested the very depths of their distended stomachs, Humble Bob downed 13.5 pounds of chili spaghetti to Chestnut’s 13.25 in 10 minutes to be crowned the event’s first champion.

Shoudt will look to hold onto his crown on Labor Day against Chestnut –currently ranked No. 1 in the world – and a field of other top-ranked competitive eaters.

The Skyline Chili Eating Championship will take place at 1:00pm on Labor Day in the International Showplace Theatre and is included free with park admission and season pass.

Discount tickets to Kings Island can be purchased in advance at Kroger and Meijer stores or online at www.visitkingsisland.com

Major League Eating (MLE), the world governing body of all stomach-centric sports, conducts more than 80 events annually, including the Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July International Hot Dog Eating Contest in Coney Island, NY. The competitive eating community, which numbers more than 8,000 veteran and rookie athletes, travels the nation in search of top titles and the glory that they provide.

Kings Island is owned and operated by Cedar Fair Entertainment Company, a publicly traded partnership that is listed for trading on The New York Stock Exchange under the symbol “FUN.” In addition to Kings Island, Cedar Fair owns and operates ten other amusement parks, six water parks, one indoor water park resort and five hotels. Cedar Fair also operates the Gilroy Gardens Family Theme Park in Gilroy, Calif. under a management contract.
