Son of Beast Closed for Rest of 2009- Maybe Forever

Recommended Posts

wow, they removed the bins! now that tells you something. even though it is just a metal bin, if they are moving things to a ride, they probably dont plan to move them back. did delirium always have bins? i never ride it enough to notice. also, something random i noticed is that in the thrill seekers shop right between sob and drop zone they have a machine which flattens pennies into designs, and it has the sob logo as one of them still. i got one. its pretty much the only other mention of the ride now, other than the scrolling signs in the front and the fear the four cups and merchandise.

interesting. makes sense though, as so many people go on delirium each cycle it could use some extra bins. i think its funny they just left the red and blue stickers, though... pretty soon you will have guests saying that they change out the gondola every so often and that the blue side is way better than the other two... lol!

Usually I believe in petitions for smaller things. Example, improving the Crypt... etc. But when it comes to a ride which WILL require multi-million dollar enhancements or improvements to stay alive, has broken two necks, and busted one blood vessel in the brain... I bet if each petition signer agreed to pay the park $10,000, they'd accept the petition. I just don't know about something like this. Like, I gladly sign and spread word of Big Bad Wolf petitions because it's a perfectly legitimate ride that's just going on in years... But when SoB is closed for doing damage to humans and being (admittedly) unable to satisfy the park's original needs, it's a horse of a different color.

Like, signing a BBW petition is saying "keep it open and I promise to visit the park and ride it because I really care about this ride and it's still a fantastic ride and worth an increase in ticket prices." Signing a SoB petition would be like saying "keep it open and I promise it won't snap any more necks." And that's just too hard to know for sure. Hahha. I'll sign any SAVESOB petitions, but I doubt they'll help.

Also, that could be a viral marketing thing... SAVESOB. Save-sob. It could be all over t-shirts. A white t-shirt with SAVESOB in huge red letters. Let's do it! Hahah.(All six of us, that is.) **Edits signature** haha.

I found something odd about SOB today. I don't know if its something new or something I've missed for a while, but today I saw what appeared to be either metal scafolding or catwalks just below the crest of the lift. What is it? Sorry, I don't have pictures.

LOL zip ties can be used for anything. Yeah, because its just zip-tied there, I think it might just be temporary, in case they decide to reopen it next season. But I really think its chances are slimmer and slimmer each day.

I still hope they will keep Son of Beast. But you never know what is up the sleeves of Cedar Fair! Geauga Lake didn't get any offical notice of their closing the rides forever until a week after the season ended in 2007.

^I'm pretty sure it was announced before the end of the season. In fact, I think they even had a big-ass sign attached to the station letting everyone know it would be demo'd during the off-season so they could get their last rides on it.

Well they won't do that with SOB... They aren't thinking of closing it because it's old or painful so much as because it's proven to be dangerous. Why give people one last chance to sue them for getting hurt when they know the ride is violent?

on the "other site" there was a seemingly credible post from a guy claiming to work with a construction company that will "be working on sob in some fashion, as they were contacted by ki but didnt get all the details yet". It is also missing from the Haunt 2009 map. thats all i got...

I had read that the post was deleted and I did not get a chance to see it before that happened, but if that is all the info that was posted I don't feel so bad. Is the Haunt map available online or just at the park?

A well-established member of the other site posted the following today:

My brother works at the park and he just texted me saying that they're running some trains on Son of Beast today.

Just thought that would be an update for everyone. I imagine it's true, but it's at least something worth discussing. For all intents and purposes, the park is closed, so it's interesting to see that they're at least taking the Son of Beast thing seriously... They're not just going to wait til the off-season to announce its closure necessarily.
