    Orion or Polaris?

So, last week Kings Island applied for Federal Trademarks of two names, Orion and Polaris. So one of these could be the name of the new attraction that is replacing Firehawk. There is also alleged leaked blue prints that were filed to the city of mason, but it only shows footers, foundation and steel needed to frame the base of the ride. Original Kings co-founder, Dennis Speigel, has looked over the blue prints and said, "This is (going to be) a Giga Coaster." So if this turns out to be true, it will be Kings Island's answer to Millennium Force. Allegedly, the new coaster will be 355 feet tall and reach speeds up to 93 miles per hour. You can read Cincinnati's channel 9 story here. https://www.wcpo.com/money/consumer/dont-waste-your-money/kings-island-files-blueprints-for-new-coaster

    Orion or Polaris?

I think Orion goes along better with the theming in that area with Flight Of Fear.
  3. It's Season Pass appreciation day at Kings Island the day before it officially opens for the season! Cold and rainy are the two words I would use to describe Season Pass Appreciation Day. Check out International Street's new pavers. They also got an unimpressive new Royal Fountain. Look at those little water sprays compared to the majestic tall one's that they had for the many years prior.
  4. I have only been to... Kings Island Cedar Point Michigan Adventures Dollywood Camden Park Universal Islands of Adventure MGM Disney Hollywood Studios The Magic Kingdom... And LeSourdsville Lake/ Americana, Cypress Gardens and Fantasy Farm back in the day. I'd like to go to more while I am still able.
  5. I still love The Monster but hardly ever get to ride it because my friends don't like rides that spin. I used to love the actual Skylab as well but it doesn't seem like it was there for very long. I think someone told me that they have a "Skylab" still at Carowinds and as of right now I'm planning on visiting all the parks I can drive to this summer. I looked in to going to California to go California Great Adventure and Knottsberry Farm, but then realized it would be at least $1500.00 each just for plane tickets, hotels and car rental. I doubt I'll ever make it out to the West coast unless something drastic happens and prices drop or someone I know moves out there and lets me sleep on their floor.
  6. Oh yes, you are correct. I remember now. All the store fronts are named after former Coney rides except for Monster, which is still there. Hopefully it's name being included doesn't mean it's going to become a former ride like the others.
  7. "O’er the ramparts we watch’d were so gallantly streaming? And the rocket’s red glare, the bombs bursting in air, Gave proof through the night that our flag was still..." um, where's the flag? ~ Francis Scott Key I wasn't expecting there to be fire works tonight being that it is Season Pass night. I would say this is the first park's fireworks of the year but technically the fireworks on New Years eve were the first.
  8. The new antique cars has more theming than any of the roller coasters that they have gotten since the Paramount owned days. This is a much smaller layout than the antique cars that Kings Island used to have, but it's still nice to see the classic ride return. It has been 14 1/2 years, but everything old is new again as Kings Island fans welcome an antique car ride back with open arms! Since I already drove to the park today, driving an antique car has little appeal to me. Still, I would drive one if the line wasn't so long and my feet and back weren't killing me. The original Les Taxis antique car ride opened in 1972 with the park but was taken out to make room for the eye sore that is Back Lot Stunt Coaster. The original antique cars gave their last rides in August of 2004. The front entrance to the ride is just dripping with nostalgia... which is a good thing!

Glockenspiel returning to the Festhaus in 2019

I, for one, am very excited to learn of this!
  10. Bavarian Curve was one of my favorites as a kid, along with the Tumble Bug. The Bavarian Curve like rides I see at fairs today (and Old Coney Island) are just not the same. The new one's hang and I remember the original being on a track... It's been so long since Kings Island had one that I could be mistaken though.
  11. Disney World in Florida is getting a new Skyride this year. You will be able to take it to a number of Disney resorts as well as from park to park. It will be like the paddle boat and monorail, where as it will take you from place to place although not into the parks. You will still need to get a park hopper if you want to spend half of your day at Magic Kingdom and the second half at Epcot, per say, but I think the skyride is free to get from place to place.
  12. The kid that thought it was a good idea to try and jump on the roof of the elevator at Grad night was drunk. I'm pretty sure the girl who fell out of Flight Commander to her death was drunk. A guy I knew along with myself was behind some drunk guys on Son of Beast and we got hit in the face with their puke. Did you know that Disney World started selling beer in the park?
  13. I don't drink either. I never have. There are a lot of alcoholics in my family yet I'm the one that gets liver disease. Personally, I don't think alcohol should be mixed with amusement parks.
  14. It actually is a craft beer place that sells bar like foods. Besides the local brewed beer, they will serve premium burgers, a veggie burger, pull apart bread, and smoked beef, fried cod with cucumber, carrot, cilantro with Sri-Mayo served on French bread. I'm not sure if that is everything on the menu, but it's what they are advertising to sell this new eatery.
  15. There is a remodel of International Street, Royal Fountain and a new restaurant called Brew house. I think Brew house is going in to where Red Hall Of Fame restaurant was.

    2019 International Street Renovation

The park once had a plan to restore old rides and put them back in operation. I wonder what ever became of that idea? I would love to see a Butter Cup, Tilt-O-Whirl and Sky Ride. I won't even dare to dream about some version of Enchanted Voyage coming back. I never see that happening.

    2019 International Street Renovation

The bad thing about paver bricks is that I see a lot all over the park that are either cracked or have holes in them. If someone should be foolish enough to wear heals it will just be a matter of time before an ankle is twisted. Wearing heals doesn't make much since at an amusement park and not likely to happen, but if there is a way for some dim person to hurt themselves the odds will increase. I could see wearing boots with a more comfortable type of heal during cold weather, like during Haunt or Winterfest.

    Firehawk closing after this season

I've never been a fan of Firehawk, but at least it is unique from the other coasters at Kings Island. Vortex has nothing special about it besides being a steal coaster that has the distinction of beating the crap out of you.
  19. I just read that they have completely re-tracked the turn around on the Blue Racer. I think the red needed it worse, but every little bit helps.
  20. The latest rumor is that a major attraction will be leaving Kings Island this year. Normally, my first guest would be Amazon Falls, because no one hardly rides that... but calling it a "major" attraction is being rather generous. So my second guess would be Vortex, because more people hate getting beat up on that ride than there are people who enjoy it. My third guess is Adventure Express, because most of the rides' dark elements haven't worked in a very long time and there is barely any upkeep on the elements that do still work (statues beating drums). Also, the company that made those coasters (Adventure and Vortex) has probably gone down hill, if it still exists at all, since the owner passed away, so replacement parts are going to become more difficult to come by (unless it's something that another company can duplicate, like a lift hill chain). But this is all just theory. I have no claim as to what is really going on with Arrow Dynamics or Kings Island. The second rumor is that Ceder Fair is adding coasters to five of its parks in 2018. So my other theory is that they could take out Vertigo and move it to a smaller park, like Michigan Adventure or something, and replace its spot at Kings Island with a flat ride or with nothing at all. A used coaster is still a new coaster for a park that doesn't already have one like it. I can't imaging Kings Island getting another coaster after just debuting Mystic Timbers this year, but I guess stranger things have happened.

Major attraction leaving after this year.

They seriously need a Tilt-A-Whirl, but maybe they feel like it is to much like The Monster. I love Tilt-A-Whirls, but if I had to choose, I would keep The Monster. There are so many unique roller coasters in other countries, I wish they would improve on and make improved versions of some of those, like the Ultra Twister.
  22. I can hardly wait to vomit on it. 😀

Major attraction leaving after this year.

For some reason, everyone thinks that a Giga (Millennium Force) is going to replace the defunct coaster. I don't know if that is one person's wishful thinking that other people are grasping on to like it's fact or if there is some truth to it. Firehawk has had a lot of issues lately. It has broken down a lot. But as far as I know, it is the only "flying underneath" coaster in Ohio. It is rather unique for the Midwest. Cedar Fair doesn't have one and I'm pretty sure Kentucky Kingdom doesn't either. You may just have to travel to a Six Flags to ride one. Plus, it seems like it was recently added to the list of open rides come Winterfest. But I only hear rumors. I know of no facts. Although, if they were to put a new coaster back in that Area 51 hole with Flight of Fear, it would really pick up attendance and create a new viable midway. Vortex gets my vote because it is such a rough ride that beats up grown ups. But it is one of the first coasters that kids can ride before getting tall enough for Diamondback and so forth. Needles to say, I'm torn, although kids aside, I would like to see it go. Someone else pointed out that the funeral signs and flowers are Firehawk colors, and the seats are in rows of four at the layout, just like Firehawk sits 4 in a row. But this could just be people reading too much into things. Regardless, the anouncement will be made at the end of this week about which coaster is going to suddenly have a super long wait through the rest of October as everyone tries to get as many last rides in as possible.

Major attraction leaving after this year.

This original post is from 2017, but at Halloween Haunt this year there is a a funeral set up by the floral clock and a sign that says something to the effect of, it's big and it's leaving on October 28, 2018. My guesses are Vortex, because it beats everyone to death. Firehawk, because it has been broke down a lot lately and could be moved to Michigan Adventures or something, and they would have all of that land back behind there in the old Dinosaurs Alive to build something big and new. Adventure Express, because like I said earlier, most of the elements don't even work anymore. Invertigo is hardly ridden anymore since Banshee went in and could easily be moved to another park, again, like Michigan Adventures. But Invertigo isn't all that big so I don't know. Maybe if they took it out along with Congo Falls and move the parks fence out closer to the parking lot...
  25. On a related note: Kissel Bros is no longer supplying rides for Darke County Fair. No more zipper. 😟
