#72084 Camp Dennison Memorial Triangle

Posted by SSR1966 on Today, 04:29 AM

Just East of Cincinnati in Camp Dennison, where a union fort was located that was for recruiting soldiers, training and medical. This is just one small park out of a few different things to do and see, including a Civil War museum and eating at the Historic Schoolhouse Restaurant.

#72041 Beverly Hills Supper Club fire, 40th Anniversary

I think they the company that owns the property should donate to the city for a park. They can improve the statue on the hill and create a deck on the hill side so that you can look up at the front of it, recreate the fountain that was in the Garden Room, create a permanent display of surviving objects from the club, have a small amphitheater and create a few hiking trails and some playground equipment. Also, they could have plaques spread around with information about that night and the club. I would rather see the place transformed into something useful, educational and joy rather than trying to just forget that it ever happened by making the place into an office building, which seems like the current owners want to see happen. Letting the place just turn into what it has become seems rather disrespectful to me.

The site of the Beverly Hills Supper Club is open to visitors one day out of the year, during the Memorial Day Weekend. Here is my visit to the location and what is left of it today. It has mostly been reclaimed by nature.

#72033 Major attraction leaving after this year.

Posted by SSR1966 on 09 June 2017 - 06:14 PM

Firehawk attendance seems to be down as well, from my observation. I think because the wait is so long to ride, even on days when the park is not busy and the line is short. I wouldn't think they would move that one, however, because it is the only thing like it at Kings Island. Even it has a history of being moved, relocated to Kings Island from Geauga Lake in 2007. Unlike Vertigo, which seems kind of pointless since Banshee opened, despite the fact that visitors can ride backwards for half the ride. Removing Adventure Express or Vortex leaves a lot of open space for another coaster down the road, however.

The latest rumor is that a major attraction will be leaving Kings Island this year.

Normally, my first guest would be Amazon Falls, because no one hardly rides that... but calling it a "major" attraction is being rather generous.

So my second guess would be Vortex, because more people hate getting beat up on that ride than there are people who enjoy it.

My third guess is Adventure Express, because most of the rides' dark elements haven't worked in a very long time and there is barely any upkeep on the elements that do still work (statues beating drums). Also, the company that made those coasters (Adventure and Vortex) has probably gone down hill, if it still exists at all, since the owner passed away, so replacement parts are going to become more difficult to come by (unless it's something that another company can duplicate, like a lift hill chain). But this is all just theory. I have no claim as to what is really going on with Arrow Dynamics or Kings Island.

The second rumor is that Ceder Fair is adding coasters to five of its parks in 2018. So my other theory is that they could take out Vertigo and move it to a smaller park, like Michigan Adventure or something, and replace its spot at Kings Island with a flat ride or with nothing at all. A used coaster is still a new coaster for a park that doesn't already have one like it. I can't imaging Kings Island getting another coaster after just debuting Mystic Timbers this year, but I guess stranger things have happened.

#72014 Trenton city-wide yard sale

Posted by SSR1966 on 31 May 2017 - 12:14 AM

The 3rd weekend of May every year is the Trenton City Wide Yard-Sale. A lot of communities have city wide yard sales but for some reason, Trenton's is a really big deal. The majority of residences set up tables in their yards and drive ways and people come from miles around to shop for good deals. Local businesses even rent out spots in their parking lots for none Trenton dealers to set up and some people cook out and sell food and drinks on their lawn instead of purging their no longer needed stuff. At least two people even sell funnel cakes, made in their own drive way. With all that said, this year wasn't as crazy as it usually is. There were still a lot of stuff and shoppers, but only about a fifth of what it normally is. Not sure if it was the threat of rain that kept everyone away or perhaps their just not being enough new stuff to look through or to make it worth setting up for. Some one told me that their were people purposely spreading false rumors that the event was cancelled this year. I don't know if that is true or perhaps just a rumor about a rumor. But anyways, here is a video I made for the 2017 event that just past. I'm curious to see if things pick back up next year or if the yearly event has just ran it's course.

#72001 My latest video, Sycamore Park in Batavia Ohio

Posted by SSR1966 on 25 May 2017 - 04:09 AM

Thanks! That video was the biggest pain in my keester. I had to go three times to capture all the footage because my Windows Movie Maker kept corrupting the files, bring them back sometimes, then corrupt them again. The first visit was on Easter Sunday and the park was hopping, the last time was on a school day which is why the playground looks so deserted. I finally ended up deleting a couple of shots just to get rid of the corrupted files so that I could convert it into an MP4. I might make another video of my friends and I in the park just for Facebook with less nature shots. I think Movie Maker can only hold so many shots which is why it started giving me such a headache.

Taft was born in Cincinnati and William Henry Harrison is buried here. Harrison's death makes for one strange story. It involves dying a month after taking office and body snatching.
